Project Overview

Site electricians A1 Sparky led by Alessandro Mattiolo and Building Manager David Ranieri conducted a thorough market assessment of LED lighting products over 4 years before the Owners Corporation approved the common area lighting upgrades of the Riviera Apartments with enLighten's Chamaeleon III, decorative arctic white oyster light and Yindi streetlight.

The cost of maintaining the existing T8 fluorescent batten lighting was spiking at $20K per year, due to the age of the light fittings and the labour intensity of fault finding to isolate failed individual lights on the lighting circuit. Approximately 10% of all emergency fittings were failing each 6 monthly battery discharge test.

The Solution

In internal corridors and lift lobbies, the new Chamaeleon decorative oyster with integrated microwave motion sensor replaced circular fluorescent and twin bayonet CFL fittings, which were 60W.

In the undercover car parks, garbage rooms and fire stairs, the new Chamaeleon III fitting was installed to replace single and twin T8 fluorescent battens.

One of the crucial considerations during this upgrade was minimising spill light into the apartments, as they are in close proximity to the poles. To address this, the existing streetlights in the complex were replaced with Yindis, to reduce energy consumption and mitigate light pollution. 

The feedback from the residents has been very positive.

Customisation of settings

Timer settings on the Chamaeleon III's microwave motion sensor were increased from the standard 15 seconds to 2 minutes for the car park driveways & parking bays, to allow time for residents to unload from the cars and wait for the

A permanently on Chamaeleon III model was installed in the undercover car park main entrances, adjacent to the exit signs, to allow for an increased light level for car park occupants to approach the lifts and garbage rooms.

The decorative Arctic White Chamaeleons for the internal corridors were set at the standby light output level of 20% by enLighten Australia, up from the standard 0% in response to the Riviera Apartment's request.
