Everybody wants to live in a community where they feel safe to explore and enjoy community life in their municipality . The way we use light in communal spaces can play a vital role in reducing criminal behaviour.

Lighting plays an integral role in creating the desired ambience and feelings of security in a car park. If a shopper perceives a threat to their personal or vehicle safety, they are unlikely to consider leaving their vehicle there. Increasing pedestrian and vehicle visibility in an outdoor carpark requires high vertical illuminance and the elimination of shadows to prevent hazards and ensure safety for all.
