Calling all clean technology innovators

The 2013 Cleantech Open was launched in Sydney on March 26 by Senator the Hon Kate Lundy, Minister Assisting for Industry & Innovation, whose department is the core partner of the competition, which is in its third year.

Following the official launch,  MC James O'Loghlin moderated a panel discussion consisting of past winners & finalists and award sponsors Dairy Australia & the newly established Australian Renewable Energy Agency, ARENA. Neil Van Buuren of Dairy Australia and Ivor Frischknicht of ARENA, a former cleantech venture capitalist,  outlined industry needs in cleantech solutions in the broader food & beverage industry &  renewable energy generation sectors.

enLighten Australia's Steve Cahill outlined how the 2012 award win & subsequent 4th placing in the Global Ideas Competition of the US Cleantech Open gave enLighten the confidence to expand its business.

"We have increased our sales staff, expanded our product range & engaged international logistics & supply chain consultants to prepare our Chamaeleon and Cetus lights for international market entry from late 2013" said Steve. "The increased profile from the award win has also translated into further  business growth."

 What's new in 2013?

The competition has expanded the entry criteria to allow for companies with up to 100 employees to enter & will offer an International Market Entry Acceleration Program for the winners including a trade mission to China in November.

In addition to the overall winner, category winners will be awarded for Mining, Manufacturing, Built Environment, Renewable Energy & Food /Beverage specific technologies.

Entry volumes for 2013 are expected to exceed those in previous years due to the expanded reach of the competition partners, who include Commercialisation Australia, CSIRO, KPMG, Green Building Council, Facilities Management Association Australia, Southern Cross Ventures & more.
