enLighten :: Case Studies

After almost two years of research, several Patent applications and one Patent already granted and certified, enLighten began taking its product to the market in November 2009.

Since then, we carried out several significant trials in a mixture of office and car park environments. To date, this has resulted in two sites being converted to LED tubes, with several other sites imminent.

Here we highlight some recent case studies that highlight the benefits of retrofitting existing fluorescent lighting systems with LED tubes.

All trials were conducted using enLighten's new Patented LED Safety tubes - no other LED tube complies with electrical safety requirements!

The following are the summaries of actual retrofit projects (use menu at left to navigate):

Gosford City Council, Administration Building Car Park

During May 2010, enLighten upgraded the lighting and lighting fixtures in the Gosford City Council administration building car park.

The existing lighting fixtures were old and inefficient and some areas of the carp park were over-lit. Savings were substantial with direct energy savings of 68% with additional 8% savings achieved through improvements in the lay out and distribution of the lighting. Fixtures were replaced and ungraded to fully enclosed fittings.

A summary of the trial outcomes is as follows:

Fluorescent Tubes
Energy consumption 53.5W
Lux at work surface
55.2Lux
LED Tubes
Energy consumption 15.8W
Lux at work surface 62Lux
Energy saving
Saving per LED tube 37.7W
Annual energy saved per tube 220kW
Annual Kg's of CO2 saved per 1000 tubes
297,227kg

This project delivered significant energy reductions and improvements in light distribution and overall appearance

Willoughby City Council Administration Building Car Park

During Nov 2009, we undertook LED retrofit trials for Willoughby City Council (WCC). As a result of these trials, WCC tendered for the retrofit of T8 tubes with LED's in two WCC Car Parks . enLighten was the successful tenderer. The works were undertaken in April 2010.

The WCC Administration building car park was already fitted with an energy reduction system. In spite of this, our LED project resulted in significant savings to Council.

A summary of the trial outcomes is as follows:

Fluorescent Tubes
Energy consumption (with energy reduction)
34.2W
Lux at work surface
48Lux
LED Tubes
Energy consumption
19.1W
Lux at work surface
56Lux
Energy saving
Saving per LED tube
15.1W
Annual energy saved per tube
99.2kW
Annual Kg's of CO2 saved per 1000 tubes
104,167kg

Willoughby City Council Youth Centre Car Park

During Nov 2009, we undertook LED retrofit trials for Willoughby City Council. As a result of these trials, WCC tendered for the retrofit of two of its Car Parks with LED lights. enLighten was the successful tenderer. The works were undertaken in April 2010.

WCC Youth Centre

The WCC Youth Centre car park project resulted in significant improvements in the overall lighting levels as well as a significant improvement in the evenness of the lighting.

A summary of the trial outcomes is as follows:

Fluorescent Tubes
Energy consumption
49.2W
Lux at work surface
58Lux
LED Tubes
Energy consumption
19.8W
Lux at work surface
79Lux
Energy saving
Saving per LED tube
29.4W
Annual energy saved per tube
139.5kW
Annual Kg's of CO2 saved per 1000 tubes
146,478kg

City of Sydney Goulburn St Car Park

During February 2010, enLighten undertook a trial of LED tubes as a retrofit replacement for T8 fluorescent tubes in City of Sydney's Goulburn St Car Park.

Energy and Lighting measurements were taken before and after the retrofit process. The trial indicates significant savings will be achieved by the replacement of existing fluorescent T8 tubes with enLighten LED tubes.

A summary of the trial outcomes is as follows:

Fluorescent Tubes
Energy consumption
41.75W
Lux at work surface
53Lux
LED Tubes
Energy consumption
15.8W
Lux at work surface
63Lux
Energy saving
Saving per LED tube
27.9W
Annual energy saved per tube
260.6Kg
Annual Kg's of CO2 saved per 1000 tubes
273,640kg

AMP Royal Randwick Shopping Centre Car Park

During November 2009, enLighten undertook trials in the car park of AMP's Royal Randwick Shopping Centre

The existing T8 fluorescent lighting was replaced by enLighten's 16W LED tubes with an assessment of the "before" and "after" to determine lighting levels and energy consumption. The outcomes indicate significant electrical and carbon emission savings

A summary of the test outcomes is as follows:

Fluorescent Tubes
Energy consumption
46.6W
Lux at work surface
60.75Lux
LED Tubes
Energy consumption
15.8W
Lux at work surface
65.1Lux
Energy saving
Saving per LED tube
30.8W
Annual energy saved per tube
269.8kW
Annual Kg's of CO2 saved per 1000 tubes
283,298kg
